Facts to be used over black screens:
- In 2015, the amount of people with dementia worldwide reached 47 million, with the number set to rise.
- People with dementia are usually refused basic freedoms and rights available to others. This can lead to the wrong care being used and wrong diagnosis.
- Only 3% of the government's medical research budget is being contributed and most of the care for patients is paid by the family and patient
TEST SCRIPT:
"How did the documentary which you analysed in P1 affect your planned documentary?"
Having analysed the documentary 'Paris is Burning' (1990, dir. Jennie Livingston) it has influenced my own planned documentary to an extent. The subject matter of Livingston's film has the chance to highlight different elements of the subject matter, both good and bad, whilst mine focuses on how something needs to improve.
Whilst the aesthetic of 'Paris is Burning' and the movement of the camera is energetic, I am looking to down play the colours to match the emotion and not distract from the serious subject point. However, I am likely to have handheld movement of the camera to match the movement of the Dementia patient.
There is the similarity between Paris is Burning and The Decline, with the way that the filmmaker is never present on screen. It means that the attention is given to the subject matter without obvious interference from the director.
